Programme unification for Accounting and Business

Over the past 18 months, Te Pūkenga subsidiaries have been working to unify the NZ Diploma in Business (Level 5) and our Accounting degree  (Level 7). Unified programmes mean that there will be one programme of study aligned with each qualification, that works for learners in all regions. The unified programmes are high-level, broad and flexible programmes that allows each region the ability to tailor the programme delivery to meet their community needs.

In 2020, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) and the Certified Practising Accountants Australia (CPA) consulted on the draft 2021 Professional Accreditation Guidelines Australia and New Zealand Technical and Professional Competency Areas and Learning Outcomes. Each provider of accounting degree programmes has been required to update their programmes to meet these new competency areas.

Similarly, NZQA have also re-versioned (updated) the NZ Diploma in Business (Level 5), which includes varying levels of change across the four core courses and the six strands of this programme.

All subsidiaries will be required to deliver:

  • Unified Accounting degree programme Year 1 and Year 2 in 2023. Year 3 will be delivered in 2024
  • NZ Diploma in Business (Level 5) all strands will move to version 3 in 2023.

Rather than all subsidiaries of Te Pūkenga dedicating time and resource to redevelop their programmes individually, we have worked collaboratively to develop unified programmes. During the unification process for these two programmes, a key focus has been on aligning the unified programmes with Te Pūkenga Charter, NZQA requirements, and the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) and Chartered Professional Accountants Australia (CPA) Professional Accreditation Guidelines Australia and New Zealand Technical and Professional Competency Areas and Learning Outcomes.
