Introductory to Nursing Programme Developments

Across the Institute of Technology and Polytechnic education sector (known as Te Pūkenga), we currently have 17 different Bachelor of Nursing programmes. Te Pūkenga is working collaboratively with the sector to develop three national, unified programmes, a Bachelor of Nursing - Māori, a Bachelor of Nursing - Pacific and a Bachelor of Nursing.

What has happened so far?

In September and early October 2021, we began engaging with our people and external partners to share that we will be developing unified Te Pūkenga Bachelor of Nursing programmes. We invited nominations to join reference groups and participate in the development of the programmes. These cohorts were:

  • Ākonga (learners)
  • Te Pūkenga kaimahi (staff)
  • Employers/workforce
  • Professional organisations
  • Hapori community groups (service users).

Thanks to everyone who put their hand up to be involved in these reference groups. We appreciate the interest you have in this important mahi and we will be in touch with the selected reference group members regarding next steps.

What is coming up?

Throughout October five reference groups will be selected and established, with a particular focus on those who are under-served by the vocational education system, including Māori, Pacific, and disabled learners.

The reference groups will work through a co-design process with experienced co-design facilitators to develop ngā mātāpono (guiding concepts). These will become key threads embedded in all Bachelor of Nursing programmes.

Throughout the end of 2021 and start of 2022 our Te Pūkenga nursing programme development teams will develop high-level, flexible programme documents that incorporate these key threads. As soon as we are able to, we will share aspects of these documents with you to gain your feedback.

In the first half of 2022 we will consult with our partners to gain feedback on the final draft programme documentation.
