You can contribute to Te Pūkenga draft Academic Regulations out now

Give us your thoughts on the Regulations either through the Citizen Lab/Our Journey space here or at one of the series of face-to-face sessions which are being held throughout the Te Pūkenga network in June and July.

“The Regulations provide the overarching framework to deliver quality teaching, research, and learning, and to support the activities of our learners,” Deputy Chief Executive Delivery and Academic, Dr Angela Beaton says.

“They also support the integrity and quality of qualifications and educational outcomes for our learners by providing the regulatory framework for teaching, learning and assessment throughout Te Pūkenga.”

“The draft academic regulations are learner centred, encourage excellence and ensure the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi are reflected in educational practice. They address equity of opportunity, experience, and outcomes for learners, to ensure all learners are treated fairly and consistently, regardless of where they do their learning.”

Work on the development of the regulatory framework kicked off in July 2020 when we met with representatives from all ITP subsidiaries and Transitional Industry Training Organisations (TITOs) to agree the project brief and scope. This was to develop a single set of fit-for-purpose regulations, as required in our academic statute, to govern all learning, including workplace learning, and teaching throughout Te Pūkenga.

During development, the project team consulted with, and sought feedback from, a variety of reference groups and representatives across the network including ākonga (our learners), Te Tira Manukura, a national forum of Māori ITP senior strategic kaimahi, and Te Rautaki Whakaroopu, ITO representatives for Māori and Pasifika.

“We will continue to work with the sector to develop the related policies and procedures that provide more detail to the overarching regulatory framework.  This will involve establishing working groups and consulting with the network throughout the remainder of 2021 and 2022,” Angela says.

The Academic Regulations will come into effect from 1 January 2023. You can feed back on the regulations by visiting the Citizen lab / Our Journey space here.
