Kia ora koutou,
As we start February, I’m conscious of the significant work programme we have ahead this year. Relationships and people will continue to be at the front of our minds throughout this mahi – our ākonga, their whānau, employers, iwi, hapū and communities, and our people within our subsidiaries and business divisions are what drive us to improve the system that supports them.
Last week we held an online whakatau for MITO following their transition to Te Pūkenga Work Based Learning (WBL) on 1 January 2022. Taking the time to welcome MITO people and stakeholders to our whānau is an important step. It builds the foundation for our kōrero going forward and helps us to understand where everyone comes from.
This year (and beyond) we’ll need to engage often and broadly to truly understand what makes a difference for learners, their whānau and employers. Knowing what drives and empowers them will be key to ensuring we deliver what we’ve been asked to – and that we build an organisation that is fit for the future and can respond to the changing world we live in.
We also need to look after the people in our waka – at Te Pūkenga and in our subsidiaries and business divisions of WBL. I want them to be proud to be part of Te Pūkenga, to feel supported by us and each other, to be excited for the future and to ultimately make a difference for our ākonga, their whānau, employers, iwi, hapū and communities.
And we need to do all of this in a world that is changing. Covid-19 has impacted the ways we work, the way people across our network teach and learn and how we engage with each other and our communities.
It’s big and exciting mahi, and I see real passion in our people every day for this work. We look forward to working with you on it over the next 11 months, and beyond.
