Learning from and sharing Te Pae Tawhiti feedback

March 4, 2021 | 2 min read

A major milestone was reached last month with the completion by subsidiaries of their Te Pae Tawhiti self-evaluation Reports.

The feedback gathered from these Reports is vital to ensuring our services work well and respond to the needs of Māori learners and their whānau, and to the aspirations of iwi and Māori communities throughout Aotearoa.

The Tiriti o Waitangi Excellence Framework is an evolving document and these Reports will inform a network-wide approach to honouring and giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi during the transition phase over the next two years, and also for the new organisation after 2023.

Board chair Murray Strong acknowledged the hard mahi contributed by all the subsidiaries in preparing their Reports.

“The strategies and actions outlined in these Reports provide a richness of approaches to help us all to transform the status quo and deliver equitable outcomes for Māori”, said Murray. “Te Pae Tawhiti is relevant across the whole of Te Pūkenga and will play a vital role in shaping the ongoing transformation of vocational education, and Aotearoa generally.”

Work began at the end of February on initial analysis of the Reports. Feedback will be shared with subsidiaries during March, with the compilation of the subsidiary-wide Report, including examples of potential ‘best practice’ initiatives which other subsidiaries may later wish to adopt.

Once the team has engaged with each subsidiary about the detail of their specific Reports, wider feedback will be shared at hui, being planned for April. At the hui, each subsidiary will share details of their own Report, including their commitments to improvement and Te Pūkenga will be able to present sector-wide themes, actions and plans.

The team will be contacting the Te Pae Tawhiti champion of each subsidiary Executive Team across the network for ongoing discussion of each subsidiary’s Report and to plan and organise the collaborative approach together.
